Unique personalized pet gifts and a Thank you email

A few weeks ago, in the morning,  after grabbing my cup of coffee, I sat down to read my emails and read this amazing thank you email. You have no idea how wonderful it feels to get these emails so, thank you Greg!

"First, I just had to say hello.
You made my last Christmas one of the best ever. The last surviving family members, besides my parents themselves, passed away towards the end of last year. I thought sending you a picture of their entire family during happy events would put a smile on their faces. When they saw what you created, the tears of happiness just flowed. Now they keep the lamps prominently displayed in their bedroom to remind them that their families are always with them.
In addition, I got another lamp made for my partner of our two "children": two dogs named Doodles and Gizmo. I tell you it was the perfect holiday watching everyone opening their gifts and being so surprised, happy and crying with happiness.
I only wish someone would make one for me! O, well.
Anyway, I am about to order another family photo for one of my best friends. But one thing I wanted to mention---unless I totally missed it, you need to devote a blog article to our furry friends. The lamp of my two dogs turned out so perfect and just made everyone's day. I'm sure I'm not the only pet owner out there who appreciates your work. So a million more times I thank you and congratulate you on the fantastic creations you have made. It must be a wonderful feeling to make so many people happy! "

One of the lamps Greg is referring to was a Large Lamp with a black frame based on the following photo.

This is the black and white version (we cropped and brightened it)
I wish we had a photo of the lamp but we didn't take one... I will see if Greg can maybe take a photo for us.

One two testing...

Every single light that we ship out is tested prior to packaging. We don't only test to make sure the light turns on but we also test for the quality of the carved piece. Once in a while we even re-cut the carved pieces. It is important to us that every single light we ship turns out the best it can be.
This photo is of a personalized lamp from a recent order. It was purchased as a gift for the coupe. The photo was wonderful and the lamp turned out beautifully. We couldn't help but take a photo of it on our work bench. So here is a small peek...

Photo gifts for Graduation

Taking Photos for Graduation is the obvious thing to do. After all, how often do you get to graduate in your life? It always represents an end of a chapter in your life and a beginning of a new one.

After you take the photos, what do you do with them?
Obviously post them to all you favorite social media places, maybe email them to your family, upload them to your favorite photo album you may have online. What else? How about displaying them? How about turning them into a personalized lamp?

Gift for Father's Day

Looking for a great gift for Father's day? Light Affection unique photo gifts are a great way to go.
They are practical, sentimental and have the unique technical aspect that will get him to ask? "wait, how does that work?"

Although it may seem like there is a photo in the lamps, it is just an illusion created by the technique of creating these unique photo gifts.

This is how it works:
The carved piece is made of semi-translucent material, meaning that the light can go through. The thicker the material, the less light goes through and the darker that area becomes. So, controlling the thickness can create different shades of brightness, similar to a grayscale photo. Creating these thickness based on a photo, will create the illusion of the photo. Does that make sense?

Although today we use computers and digital photos, in the past this technique was used to create the same illusion but was all hand carved. The artists usually carved a piece of wax, created a mold from the wax, and then poured porcelain to replace the way. These pieces are called lithophanes.
Want to see some of these lithophanes, you can visit the Blair museum http://www.lithophanemuseum.org/. Light Affection, by the way, is featured in their book. We are very proud of that.

So, back to Father's day gifts, if you are looking to purchase, take a look at some tips and time frames for gifts ideas for dad.

Father's day 2015 falls on June 21st. Happy Father's day to all you dads out there!

Illuminating the Memory

During the holiday season we received an order for two of our personalized photo gifts. The photos were beautiful.
Much later we received the following email that touched us all:
"I wanted to let you know how pleased I was with these two lamps . Unfortunately , Dad  ( Labeled Uncle Reid  because my cousin scanned the original for me) passed away on 11/14/14  and did not get to see these “Christmas “ presents.  However, I chose to use them at his funeral and used them in the eulogy .. This demonstrated how our lives are mere structures on the outside , but with the LIGHT applied as in the Light that Jesus shines through our hearts His love is illuminated and radiates to others .   That’s how my daddy loved others and what a beautiful moment.   ….I just ordered my other gift today  and look forward to this as well .   Thanks so much , Sereeda"
We feel extremely honored to have been able to create the lights!
